The story of Legendary Players may just be a study in synchronicity. Director/star Sean Michaels had been looking for new projects, and at about that same time airerose entertainment was forming. Its honcho, Adam Hasner, was on the lookout for new directors, and Michaels seemed perfect for the role.
Legendary Players was the brainchild of Adam and myself, with a nod to Tom Byron's Seasoned Players series, which got so much notoriety and had great success," Michaels said. "We were looking for something that would enhance the girls who were still around and made the industry what it is today, and so Legendary Players was born, and hopefully we'll have great success with this, since there are plenty of other legendary players out there waiting to be shot."
Such as...?
"Julia Ann, we're shooting, and she's everybody's favorite, as well as mine," Michaels said. "The last scene we'll be shooting for this volume will feature Teri Weigel, who's looking great."
Also appearing in the premiere volume: Nina Hartley and Shayla LaVeaux.
"God willing, in Legendary Players 2, we'll have people like Tiffany Mynx. She's still around and performing well; I worked with her twice for Brazzers, and she looks great," he added.
Other possibilities for future volumes include Ginger Lynn, Melissa Hill, Amber Lynn and possibly even Keisha, last seen in Porn Valley in 2008.
"My job here," Michaels explained, "is to seek out and bring back these women from the past who are still pretty formidable in their own rights, and have them come back for maybe more than one return to the industry in their own sexual way because they still have fans that are wanting them to, and wanting to enjoy their work again.
"Remember titles like Behind the Green Door? Misty Beethoven? Alex deRenzy's Pretty Peaches?" he asked. "Those are the things that are inspiring me right now to bring back and not get away from, because it seems to me that, over the years, sex has become more about acrobatics instead of connecting with your partner."
Indeed, "connection" seems to be the operative word during the two scenes AVN got to see being shot.
"I never really fully retired, so to speak," Shayla told AVN. "I took a bit of a break and moved back to Colorado, went through a little bit of a separation but also wanted to think about my circumstances and just change things up a bit. I helped out my family back there, and I've been traveling some. I started a striptease company with a girlfriend of mine from out there, kind of going back to my roots, because that's what I did before I got into the adult industry. I came back out and shot with Tom Byron, one of my first movies back, but that was about four or five years ago."
