VAN NUYS, Calif.—Amputees in porn is not exactly an untapped niche—in the late ’70s and early ’80s, a one-legged gal who went by the name Long Jean Silver starred in a whole string of movies alongside the likes of Bambi Woods, Sharon Kane, Annie Sprinkle and Sharon Mitchell.
Since then, it’s certainly been a rarity at best to see someone minus a limb or with some other handicap in a porn video. But over the last year or so, Heatwave Entertainment has been staking a claim as the premier (and let’s be honest here—probably lone) proprietor of the genre with the series Handicap Sex, now up to its seventh volume.
“Along with our staple black lines, BBW and MILTF, we branched off into deeper fetish themes like midget, adult diaper fetish and hirsute lines—we were doing movies like this for years before we got into the [handicap genre],” Heatwave VP of production Alex told AVN. “It was kind of the perfect gateway, because we had already done a lot of fetish stuff in the past, stuff that wasn’t run of the mill, or your typical Vivid-style adult movie.”
Shot primarily in Europe, Handicap Sex features “guys and gals that are missing arms or hands or legs, or are paralyzed,” Alex explained. “It does well for us. There’s some really sexy girls doing this stuff ... they might have an appendage missing or whatever, but they still know how to get down and maneuver, and sometimes come up with positions folks with all four limbs couldn’t dream of! I think that it’s empowering folks that are handicapped and also folks that are into the fetish. A little something for everybody.”
Well ... maybe not everybody. “Certain accounts have said it’s too weird, we won’t carry it, and I find that really disgusting because first of all, it’s not like some sort of depraved rough bondage-type sex, it’s normal sex between two consenting adults,” Alex said. “It’s just that one of [them] is either missing an appendage or has some sort of physical disability. So it’s a bummer that they’ll lump that into a category that it’s like some extreme sex type movie. But to each his own. Not everybody’s going to want to carry it.”
So given Alex’s description of Handicap Sex as an evolution from Heatwave’s other fringe fetish releases, does he see any melding of specialties on the horizon?
“I would love to do a midget handicap movie,” he enthused. “That’s something that actually could be in the works, that would be the next level. We already have a midget tranny movie coming out, so look out!”
