Old Pueblo Celebrates A Good Year on a Different Road

As they close in their first full year of operation, Old Pueblo Distribution can attribute their success to a change of direction. They started out on one route, then swerved and took a different road that led them straight into the winner’s circle.

“Basically, we shifted our business plan idea over completely, and it’s worked out for the best,” OPD owner Arnold Stein told AVN.com. “It’s been a tremendous evolution from where we were a year ago or so. I’m just absolutely amazed at how we’ve grown.”

In the summer of 2003, Stein left his position as sales manager at Big Top Video and started his own production company, Trampas Video. OPD was formed to distribute Made in Mexxxico, a line of hardcore videos shot inside Mexico with all Mexican, non-professional girls.

But Stein and his partner, Gil Brac, soon found out they couldn’t play in the Latin girl market as strong as they wanted to, especially after several established, big name companies started Latina lines of their own.

“We couldn’t really bring in all the footage and get it done in time to get out with everyone else. We just weren’t fast enough. We had the idea, we had the plan, we just could not materialize the product that quickly.”

There were also potential legal problems involving the federal 2257 record-keeping requirements, a somewhat dicey proposition with Mexican nationals. So they decided to put the series on hold and look elsewhere for product. “We knew we needed to grow in a different direction,” Stein said.

At the 2004 Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas, Stein made the rounds and talked to dozens of producers who were looking for distribution and knew about his track record at Big Top.

Stein’s big selling point was that OPD could offer not only distribution but full post-production services, from box cover and DVD menu design to editing. “We started to put it out that if you shoot the footage, we’ll do everything it takes afterwards to get it through replication and then distribute it,” Stein said.

The first deal he signed was with Cly Maxwell of SearchExtreme.com for the oral line Stick It in My Face, co-produced with photographer Kevin Moore. (Vol. 3 has just been released.)

Then they made deals with a couple of far out of the mainstream amateur producers, Porno Dan, based on the East Coast, and Uncle Lanny, from Phoenix.

They hired Dutchstud to shoot two amateur lines for them, Super Sluts and Bubble Butts. Dutchy has since parted ways with OPD but the lines continue, with three new volumes awaiting release.

From Full Throttle Productions—actress Shy Love and her husband Eric Hunter—came the feature Put It Wherever, which attracted cable sales. Mean Felines, David “Pussyman” Christopher’s fetish company, contributed the smothering line, Fem Dom Face Sitters.

The most popular personality on OPD’s roster, perhaps, is porn star Brittany Andrews. “She’s the queen of all fem doms,” Stein says. “What else can be said about her?” Vol. 2 of her Bitch Boyz is shipping this week, with a remastered, repackaged edition of Vol. 1 (originally released by another company) upcoming. Her fetish-oriented Smoking Sirens goes out at the end of this month, and a girl-girl title, Lesbians in Lust, will premiere at AEE in January.

Set for next year is Bitch Boyz 3, featuring the winner of the online “Be Brittany’s Bitch” contest. Stein predicts it will be a big mover. “It is so different from anything that’s our there now. No one else really puts out a good girl-on-guy strap-on movie.”

Mining the Internet, OPD struck paydirt, making deals with two high profile websites, Pink Visual and Matrix Content, to provide web content for video release.

Pink Visual, Stein says, “has all the reality porn stuff,” including Backseat Bangers, Bang Boat, Her First Big Cock and The MILF Seeker. OPD’s first gay title, His First Big Cock, comes from Pink.

Stein describes MatrixContent.com as “glamour, real pretty girls, solo, kind of on the Playboy, Adam & Eve side.” OPD is following Matrix Pornstars with Matrix Centerfolds (one of them is Jenna Jameson) shipping on November 23. OPD will release Matrix Hardcore, the site’s first hardcore series, as soon as it’s ready next year.

New to OPD’s roster is Lisa Sparxxx, whose ultra-hard all-blowjob The Head Clinic is coming from Hellbound Productions. Stein describes her as “the nastiest girl I’ve ever met, in the best sense of the word.”

Old Pueblo’s current catalog numbers 27 titles. Made in Mexxxico, Aria Giovanni’s all-girl Meridians of Passion, and the two Dutchstud-directed lines are their only original productions. But Stein is drawing up plans for new in-house projects, including possibly a couple of features, to get under way early next year.

And as soon as various legal snags can be worked out, Stein will head back south of the border to shoot more volumes of Made in Mexxxico, the movie that started OPD on its road in the first place.
