ORGY CHANTS CUT ON HINDU COMPLAINTS

Stanley Kubrick \nBURBANK - The orgy scene in Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut had European and South African Hindus on edge because of what the chants used in the scene turned out to include.

According to the Associated Press, Kubrick had believed they involved generic chant music - but the chants turned out to include highly-religious Hindu scripture, according to Warner Brothers, who apologized for the mistake.

"We didn't know. Mr. Kubrick didn't know. We have now taken the lyric part out of the film," says Warner spokeswoman Nancy Kirkpatrick. The music, though, will remain.

The film starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman opens in Europe and South Africa this month, without the offending lyrics, but versions now in France still feature the chants, according to the AP.
