The women in Peelers GentlemanĀ¼s Club of Brookings, S.D. can still peel for the clients, thanks to a temporary restraining order granted by a federal judge. The order puts a hold on enforcement of a newly-enacted anti-nudity ordinance. \n Peelers opened in April and Brookings city officials sprung to action immediately. They placed an ordinance banning nude dancing on themunicipal ballot and the measure passed, 1,518 to 895, on June 2. \n In its lawsuit against the city, Pegasus, Inc. v. City of Brookings, club owners argue that the city introduced the measure in direct response to the new business. They allege that putting it on the special municipal election ballot instead of waiting until the next general election violated state and city laws. The lawsuit also says the new law is in conflict with the First Amendment. \n The temporary restraining order is to be in effect until a trial occurs, beginning Aug. 6.
