Not So Torn: Best New Starlet Remy LaCroix

CHATSWORTH, Calif.—During the first six months of last year, a bright new wonder emerged on the porn scene who sparked the kind of instant electric surge throughout the industry that only comes along maybe two or three times a decade. Her name was Remy LaCroix, and in nearly the blink of an eye, it was on everyone's lips, across the box cover of her own Elegant Angel star vehicle, and at the top of the list for virtual locks in the 2013 AVN Best New Starlet race.

Then, as abruptly as her flame had ignited, she snuffed it out herself with an announcement on her blog at the end of June that she was "gracefully backing out of porn." Such a sensation had she become in her short tenure that this announcement made headlines with every adult news source and sent something of a shockwave across Porn Valley.

But Remy, as it turned out, did not go very far before deciding maybe she had been a little rash in calling it quits. In fact, not only did she shoot the remaining scenes she'd had scheduled before making her announcement, she took a post in Kink.com's talent department and continued to promote her as-yet-unreleased titles through Twitter and elsewhere, most especially the much-hailed Torn from New Sensations Couples, which went on to take AVN's first-ever Best Romance Movie award and Best Actor for Remy's co-star, Steven St. Croix. (The latter prize brought her up for her first onstage appearance at the 2013 AVN Awards, in order to accept for St. Croix, who skipped out this year, believing he had no shot at winning.)

By late November, Remy had come to the conclusion that she was ready to jump back into the porno fray whole hog, and made another, lesser seen public announcement of such on Tumblr.

"In hindsight, I wish I never made that original announcement, and instead just took the physical break that I needed," she confessed to AVN. "Regardless, I am back for more, and with this amazing award to back me up, and with a better outlook on how to handle myself and my body in this industry."

Describing her first experience at the AVN Awards as "magical," Remy recounted her second trip to the stage upon winning Best New Starlet thusly: "Honestly, I don't even remember what I said because I was so nervous. If I could redo that moment, I'd thank Elegant and AVN for being so amazing and making me feel like a princess."

She said that to her, the Best New Starlet title "means that I've been recognized as this year's 'total package'—I'm young and seemingly innocent, but I'm down for anything and everything sexually. It's such a highly coveted award, too, because it is based on a body of work as opposed to a single aspect or scene, and I am completely honored to have earned it."

So what can the world expect from Remy LaCroix in 2013? Will she be sticking around awhile this time? "Absolutely," she proclaimed. "I love porn and now that I am my own agent and in total control of my career, it's going to keep getting better from here. Lots of traveling this year and Best-New-Starletting all around!"
