New York City Boosts Sex Shop Monitors

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced that he will be bumping up the number of employees that monitor sex shop growth in New York City, according to a published report.

The New York Post reported that Bloomberg will be expanding the small city office that was set up 30 years ago to combat the growth of sex shops in Manhattan is to encompass all five boroughs.

The new unit will have a staff of 12, compared to the seven people employed by the old Office of Midtown Enforcement, the story said.

The Mayor's Office of Special Enforcement, as it is now referred, will be responsible for coordinating various city agencies, including those empowered to shut down adult shops. According to The Post, the office will have other responsibilities, including investigating bazaars selling counterfeit merchandise and apartment buildings being illegally converted to hotels.
