New Year's Resolutions: Directors, Execs & Stars Share Theirs

The AVN team was getting into the New Year's spirit and pondering our resolutions for next year—so we thought we’d ask other folks in the industry what was on their minds. The responses range from the personal to the professional, the heartfelt and the humorous. We think you'll enjoy what they have to say.

AVN would like to wish everyone a happy and fulfilling year ahead. And we’re also taking to heart the advice of two Wicked Pictures directors. The first is Jonathan Morgan, with a resolution “to simply remember to write 2015 instead of 2014 as the date” (though he has another more serious goal stated below). And the second you’ll find at the end of this article.

Benjamin Franklin said it best: "Be at War with your Vices, at Peace with your Neighbors, and let every New-Year find you a better Man.” So this year I intend to take his advice and my New Year's resolution is to find the opportunities hidden in each day. I want to make the best of this year and be in a position to make our product and our company better not only for our customers and fans, but for everyone that works with us.
—Ryan Madison, director/performer

We resolve to find new ways to engage our fans and to find unique ways to get people to pay for adult content again in today's world of access to free porn. We want to create the best sex-positive community online and we will do it through honesty, humor, and integrity ... and hot sex, of course!
—Farrell Timlake, president, Homegrown Video

I want to continue what I started with my former TS studio and create passionate, storyline-rich feature films for Trans performers with my studio (with Mile High Media) "TranSensual Films." It will definitely include lesbian films, which Trans females have been largely excluded from.

(1) To be a better wife, boss, employee, daughter, cousin, sister, aunt, and friend by talking less, listening more, and being a little mysterious (not showing all my cards).

—Courtney Trouble, director/performer, Trouble Films

2014 was my first year with Wicked, and it was absolutely fantastic. I was able to shoot movies that I was heavily invested in, and I received a record 55 AVN nominations, including Director of the Year. 2015 will see me release the ultra-campy Barbarella XXX and take on some more high-budget parodies, like Batman v Superman XXX and The Empire Strikes Back XXX, plus several other really interesting projects that I'm super excited about!
—Axel Braun, director, Axel Braun Productions

To run as fast as the MILFs at Barry's Bootcamp.
—Wicked Girl Asa Akira

The name of my sociology game for 2015 is awareness.
Be it for good or bad, it seems like we hear a lot about porn mainstreaming. Aside from this sort of rhetoric being inherently patronizing, it also makes me a little wary. Current and former members of the industry continue to face myriad forms of discrimination, seemingly at every turn—this is the opposite of social acceptance, much less mainstreaming.
In 2015, I intend to keep working to draw awareness to the issues impacting the adult community, highlighting disparities, community and humanity, and the ways in which "industry only" issues actually impact every corner of our social world. Because the adult industry is not something that needs to assimilate or mainstream—it already is an integral part of wider society.
—Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals, sociologist, @drchauntelle

Work harder, push myself to produce higher quality product, and now that I'm getting older take care of myself better.

Not much unusual from me, just want to eat healthy and continue to have fun making character-driven erotic features. Hopefully, bigger and better. And finish up two novels I’ve been working on.
—James Avalon, director

My New Year’s resolution is to focus more of making myself than others happy and to quit smoking. I'm a people pleaser, so sometimes I forget to put myself before my friends and family, but not this year. And, smoking is just a nasty habit.

My new year's resolution is to make more sexy and hot scenes for you all to enjoy and really get me name out there this year and win some awards.
—Raven Bay

—Nate Glass, owner, Takedown Piracy

My resolution for the new year is to not only grow as a performer and a director but to challenge my creative ability and to take on more difficult projects. I also want to establish myself/Mental Beauty more in Europe so that I can travel and shoot there more often. I have a goal to show the world what I can do, and that American porn and European porno can come together and be one.
—Bonnie Rotten, owner/producer/director/actress, Mental Beauty

I want to keep growing as a person and a filmmaker of smut and horror.
—Ivan, director, Puba Network

My Resolution for the New Year is not to get peeved and wrapped around an angry axle when some new company (or an old one) does something silly, awful, or unethical in this industry.

—Jeff “Dillonaire” Dillon, vice president of business development and marketing, eline.com

—Alex Chance, performer

#StayPositive2015 is my New Year's resolution! With all the lost loved ones in and out of the industry, it's hard at times to stay positive. However, I've been saying these words for the past three years and will continue on: "Positive Mind," "Positive Spirit," "Positive Soul.” Surround yourself with Positive People!
—Nyomi Banxxx, owner, ChocolateRadio.net

After being lucky enough to receive two camming awards, this year has been filled with wonderful changes causing my life to go in directions I never expected. In 2015, I strongly wish to repeat as the AVN Fan Awards' Favorite Web Cam Girl (fingers crossed), so I can continue further down this road. While these new opportunities have been exciting, it's also made my life much busier, and I'm trying to keep up with the pace of it all. My resolution is to find a way to better organize myself and learn to manage my time more efficiently, so I may continue expanding myself and my projects, while remaining calm and as mentally zen as possible.
—LittleRedBunny, Favorite Web Cam Girl, 2014 AVN Fan Awards

I'm going to make more fucking movies this year. Im going to focus on bringing my fans awesome camera work, interesting and erotic stories, and the hottest, most authentic lesbian sex in porn. I've got great things coming from LilyCade.com, Filly Films and more!
—Lily Cade, director/performer

In 2014 I struggled and learned to accept being a curvy TS model and eventually owned it and became happier. Now in 2015 I will reinvent myself as a 40-year-old model. I need to focus on making myself happy and helping the vast group of new TS models with becoming independent. Each year I am still active is something new. When we stop growing it's time to move on to something else, and I'm NOT done yet.
—Wendy Williams, performer/publicist

This year I'm hoping to finally get my pro-am movies out or a website built for that content because that's my new favorite stuff to make. Hopefully coming out of AEE this year I'll have some answers (about distro, etc.) going forward since the overall goal here in XXX is to get in as many scenes with hot chicks of all ages, shapes and sizes I possibly can. And of course to continue with Mike John Productions, although I am entertaining offers to shoot for other companies or websites if they're the right fit.
And all of you can rest assured that NONE of my resolutions will include me losing weight!
—Tim Von Swine, director/performer

I'm very much looking forward to this coming year and pursuing my passions, both in adult (especially in the internet market space) and in mainstream arenas with my photography, music development, nightclub promotions and artist management. I also especially look forward to the performances of artists Nikki Phoenix's and JackEL's new singles as well as her book, which will both be happening this year. It is so gratifying to see that the seeds of hard work that were sown in 2014 have already blossomed in 2015. Best wishes to all my friends and everyone in the industry and may you all achieve all of your own dreams and goals for the New Year as well!
—Miles Long®, @mileslong4real

This is something I'm sure a lot of us in the industry need to do: Stop procrastinating and clean up clutter. We hold on to a lot of things, but if we just take a minute this weekend and look at it, we'll see that we really don't need it or can put it in storage. And smoke less—cigarettes, that is. LOL.
—James Bartholet, performer and owner, Galaxy Publicity

Luna agrees with James on getting more organized and cutting back on smoking cigarettes, but also adds that she wants to open a new business this year, and turn on as many men women as possible this year.
—Luna Star, performer

My resolution for this year is focusing all my energy and time to direct feature movies for some of the biggest companies. After writing and directing a number of my own movies with very limited budgets, if any budget at all, and still getting huge recognition and nominations for every one of them, I know that if given the opportunity with a budget I would be making incredible movies and be standing up on that stage with a new suit and awards in hand. Going into my fourteenth year in the adult industry i've dedicated too much blood sweat and tears to this industry—there’s no walking away for me. Another resolution is to finally quit smoking—probably my biggest personal challenge because I’ve been smoking since I was twelve. It’s definitely time to stop and focus on health.
—Dick Chibbles, director/performer

My only New Year’s resolution is to have more fun. Life is short—we should take time to enjoy it.
—Karen Fisher, performer

I’m going to try not to start or finish any “Twitter Wars” on my public time line. Letting out strings of profanity, making insane accusations, pointing out illegal activities and worst of all cracking “Yo Mama” jokes—it makes me feel so, so back in high school …
Make an effort to honor all my commitments. Show up on time, and ready to work. Or if I party all night and know I’m no way showing up for work, I’ll at least call, and not just a few min before my call time.
I’ll try to be nice to everyone … Stop being a “punk-ass” and unprofessional. I don’t need any more hate blogs written about me.
But most of all, know when someone is pulling my leg, like I’m pulling yours. Happy New Year, everyone.
—Rick Garcia, photographer (@IndustryByRick)

Nah. I'm kidding. I'll just be happy if Michael Weinstein gets bowel cancer.
—Eli Cross, director

I think AVN’s 2015 resolution should be to get the AVN Awards from 2014 delivered ... before the 2015 AVN Awards.
Brad Armstrong

Duly noted, Mr. Armstrong. We're sure others second your emotions. We're listening, and with the help of a new trophy manufacturer on board, the statuettes will soon reach their final destinations.
