Network Solutions Registers 5 Millionth Domain Name

It took four years for Network Solutions to register its first one million Internet domain names, another 15 months to reach two million, six months to reach 3 million, four months to reach 4 million and less than three more months to reach 5 million names. If there was ever a barometer detailing the rapid growth of the Internet, this has got to be it. The 5 millionth registrant was Katherine Weissman, who reserved the name believeinkids.com in order to build a Website that features extraordinary kids and their accomplishments. This will be her second go at a Website. The first, Kitbiz.com, a specialty bridal business, went online in August of 1998 and has been very successful for her.

"I'm just excited about the Internet," said Weissman. "Since Kitbiz has been so successful, my mind is constantly spinning with new ideas of how to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities the Internet provides."

Network Solutions, Inc. was founded in 1979 during the dim beginnings of Internet time, pioneering the development of registering Web addresses ending in .com, .net, .org and .edu. "Network Solutions' easy-to-use domain registration service is one of the key catalysts to the Internet's growth and the development of Web-based E-commerce," said Jim Rutt, Network Solutions' CEO. "We pioneered the underlying technologies and business strategies that enable businesses from Amazon.com to Kitbiz.com to develop a unique Internet identity. With a huge market potential, we've only just begun."
