This week Nectar Entertainment threw its hat into the softcore arena with the release of six softcore titles, all of which are R-rated versions of videos that had previously been released as adult entertainment.
Nectar repurposed its adult titles by removing the sex and inserting additional glamour footage. Then the packaging was tweaked to reflect the new product, and when necessary, the titles are changed.
Sean Logan, CEO of Nectar, points to Welcome to the Valley as an excellent example of how an adult movie can be converted to an R-rated movie. “We developed the Welcome to the Valley as an episodic series anyway, so when you take out the sex and add some extra glam footage the series still holds up as a sitcom about the adult industry.”
Nectar intends to eventually release softcore versions of its entire catalog, including the First Strike Entertainment catalog.
“We’ve already had very significant orders placed by mainstream retail outlets that we can’t identify because of the origins of the content," said Brett Reez, Nectar’s vice president of sales. “And we anticipate being able to move into lingerie stores and other markets that were previously unavailable to us.”
The first six softcore titles represent a mixture of Nectar and First Strike releases.
Nectar’s critically acclaimed Mystified has been converted into Mystified: The Girls of the Enchanted Forest, and Welcome to the Valley #1 will be released as an R-rated version under the same name.
First Strike’s Fresh Asses was converted into Fresh Girls and White Chocolate is now Bad Blondes. Young Blonde Voyeurs I and II are being released as R-rated versions with the same title.
While nothing on the softcore product indicates that it includes footage originally released as adult, the Nectar and First Strike brands are still found on the box covers.
The aforementioned six softcore titles have already begun to ship.
