NUDISTS CIRCLE THE WAGONS

With nudism a lifestyle under siege thanks to more and more brushes with the law, those who practice it are about to hit the political and legal trenches to wage a defense of their right to keep and bare all.

The Free Speech Coalition says the American Association for Nude Recreation even has a lobbyist, in the wake of a bid by Florida Congressman Dave Weldon to ban nude sunbathing and swimming at a remote spot along the Canaveral National Seashore.

That bid collapsed. But the AANR also has a legal defense fund and a government affairs division in a move to protect their way and their freedom.

Nudism took a ferocious hit last month when the suspect in the Yosemite sightseers' murders was arrested - the FBI found him at a nudist colony near Wilton, CA.

The AANR's members say the group focuses on wholesome family fun, against the stereotype of nudists as either nature extremists or swingers.
