NUDE ON ICE

The nudes from New York: Two women only streaked on the famed Rockefeller Center ice rink during a fashion show. The method to their madness - they were protesting people wearing fur. Speaking of which, they wore bikini bottoms only.

Melynda Duval and Anna West strapped on skates and the bikini bottoms, as well as painted-on leopard spots, carrying a paper sign stretched between them saying, "Only Animals Should Wear Fur," says the Associated Press.

Their stunt stopped the Montreal Fashions on Ice Show momentarily, and security staff led the skaters off the ice after about one minute, the AP says.

Both Duval and West are members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, says a spokeswoman for the organization, and come from Norfolk, VA. Duval has streaked for the cause before, the AP says, once disrupting a Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in similar, er, fashion.

It's a contrast to animal rights activists' reputation for unruly protests. ``Something like this, it's fun, it's uplifting and it gets people talking about the issue,'' says PETA's Kristie Signon to the AP. ``We do have a good sense of humor.''
