NFL Not Happy Time Warner Added Porn Over Football

NEW YORK—Time Warner Cable’s decision to add eight new porn channels to its lineup has the NFL steamed. TW has rebuffed efforts by the league to add the NFL Network to its lineup, but seems to have no issue with the porn.

NFL spokesperson Greg Aiello Tweeted his displeasure Wednesday. "Interesting page 3 story in today's NY Post. Time-Warner is offering 8 new porn channels [but not NFL Network!]. What a world! What a world!"

But the Los Angeles Times points out that the NFL wants 80 cents a month per subscriber to carry the channel, and that not only TW but Cablevision and a few other distributors also have balked at the price tag.

The Wonderful World of Disney had no trouble getting on the Time Warner schedule. It’s charging 50 cents per subscriber, though.

In the real world, the numbers may not add up, but then again maybe they do. At 12.5 million subscribers, Time Warner would need to find another $10 million per month to pay for the NFL Network. If, as is alleged, they added the eight new porn channels to pay the monthly $6.25 million nut to get Disney, that would mean they would have to add somewhere around 12 new porn channels to pay for the NFL content.

That’s a lot of porn, a lot of football and a shit storm of dubious press, but also a lot of happy men (and some women.) Might just be worth it.
