Rob Schaffner of Countess Recula fame gets a profile in Thursday's L.A. Times about independent video stores battling the big chains with their own special brand of inventory. Besides making an occasional porn flick, Schaffner also owns Mondo Video A-Go-Go located at 1818 N. Vermont Ave in Hollywood [323-953-8896] where he and his wife Chris, according to the Times, have been "renting tasteless and trashy flicks for more than 10 years."
"We specialize in American cheese-a-rama from days gone by," Chris tells the times. "We love getting special orders for what people call the impossible finds." Among Mondo's favorite movie makers are Ray Harryhausen, John Waters, Al Adamson and Russ Meyer.
