Mobiles Truly Become a ‘Funbox’

The adult content available at Gold Coast Girls has been so successful that Australian mobile content purveyor Funbox has decided to focus its efforts on producing more “soft” adult concepts for the worldwide mobile market, the company announced today.

According to Vice President of Business and Product Development Jason Healy, Funbox will take an aggressive approach to positioning itself as the foremost producer of soft adult concepts for the mobile arena both on and off carrier decks.

“No one is really focusing or producing soft adult content specifically for mobile phones with a real concept behind them,” Healy says. “People talk about softcore not producing great revenues, but all they are currently doing is pushing out bikini shots with no substance or ‘hook’ to keep people interested. Our services are heavily concept-based and involve the user through interaction such as voting and blogs, etc. Plus, these girls are real people with real lives.”

Gold Coast Girls follows the hot and steamy adventures of sexy girls living on the beautiful beaches of eastern Australia’s Gold Coast. The service offers subscribers an up-close and personal look into the girls’ lives as they live, party, and have fun (mostly in bikinis or nude) through pictures and video sent to their mobile phones daily.

Gold Coast Girls was launched Nov. 1 and has seen tremendous growth and success over its five months in the relatively small Australian premium SMS market, Healy says.

“Considering the size of the Australian market compared to others such as the U.S.A. and Europe, we feel that the outstanding success of the Gold Coast Girls here in Australia could pale into insignificance in other markets. Without mentioning specific figures, the service was profitable after just one month and has generated more than a $1 million U.S. so far.”

While soft concepts like Gold Coast Girls and others Funbox has in the pipeline don’t offer gratuitous sex scenes like their hardcore counterparts, they do offer some nudity in reality-based surroundings. They primarily rely on a concept and an ability to appeal to people much in the same way as reality TV shows, but with much sexier content in an interactive environment.

Keeping worldwide expansion in mind, Funbox produces the concepts across a range of classifications that can be adapted to individual carrier or country regulations. The content ranges in ratings from M 15 to MA to R.

Funbox also has several concepts currently in production for the female and gay markets. The company hopes to offer all of its products to worldwide markets within the next 12 months.
