Michael Grecco, a highly regarded mainstream photographer, will be shooting portraits of the people who attend the AVN Awards Show in January in Las Vegas for a major book project that is being sponsored in part by AVN.
Grecco’s extensive background includes work with high-profile editorial clients such as Entertainment Weekly, Time, Esquire, Premiere and Maxim, and advertising clients such as ABC, IBM, Sprint, Walt Disney Co. and Yahoo!
Grecco recently photographed director Steven Spielberg for the cover of the current issue of Time magazine. Some of his other recent work includes a women’s fashion campaign for Oakley and the Women of Beach Volleyball calendar.
For the “AVN Photo Book” project which has yet to be titled, Grecco’s potential subjects will range from porn stars and industry professionals all the way to the fans who attend the annual spectacle that is the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo and AVN Awards, Jan. 5-8 at the Venetian Hotel.
“People might be live cast at the event for this book,” Grecco said.
There will also be a behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of the book.
Grecco will have a suite at the Venetian Hotel, where he will be capturing some of the shots leading up the AVN Awards Show on Saturday, Jan. 7. He plans to cover some of the parties throughout the weekend as well.
In addition, “I’m looking to shoot people primping and prepping in their rooms either to go out on the [Expo] show floor or the night of the [AVN Awards],” Grecco said.
During the AVN Awards, Grecco will also be positioned in the photo booth behind the stage shooting all the night’s award-winners.
“I want to get atmosphere - portraits of who comes to the show and the wildness afterward,” he said. “I went to the event about five years ago and wrote this book proposal four years ago.”
Grecco said he and his production team are already assembling a “wish list” of photo subjects.
“The book is going to center around juxtaposed portraits,” he said. “I might get a uniquely dressed fan that really looks like he’s from Oklahoma, and have him tell his story on the left page and have a portrait of his favorite star on the right.”
He said that, for example, another section he wanted to do was Tera Patrick and her husband/manager Evan Seinfeld, and their two contract girls, Nikki Benz and Lucy Lee.
“I want to tell stories both on a visual level and on a contextual level,” Grecco continued.
