Metro Signs Major Broadcast Deal, Expands into Internet, Publishing, and Hardware Markets

- Metro Global Media, the only publicly-traded producer of adult entertainment, announced May 29 that it had established a partnership with New Frontier Media, Inc., the only publicly-traded adult satellite network company.\n According to a Metro press release, Colorado Satellite Broadcasting (CSB), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of New Frontier Media (NFB), will be launching TeN: The Erotic Network on a 24-hour basis on August 15, 1998 with an estimated pre-launch carriage of 2-3 million addressable households in North and South America. NFB also owns the Exxxtasy Network, which consists of three 24-hour satellite channels.\n The agreement calls for Metro to produce films and videos on a continuing basis for both TeN and the Exxxtasy channels. The deal also involves the licensing of Metro's film and video library including many titles which have never been shown on cable or satellite television. Metro will also supply higher-budgeted productions to both networks on a pay-per-view, revenue sharing basis; the first two scheduled pay-per-view releases are Phillip Mond's multi-award-winning Zazel, and the critically-acclaimed Red Vibe Diaries from director James Avalon.\n "To be able to announce this on the last day of our fiscal year really underscores the culmination of our efforts throughout the year," stated Metro president Dan Geribo.\n In other Metro news, the company has announced the launching of one of the largest adult-related "shopping malls" on the Internet, The Amazing Mall (www.amazingonline.com) which was scheduled to make its official debut in June. The mall, which was nearing completion as we went to press, is set to contain literally thousands of products from over one hundred different suppliers. Direct-from-warehouse shipping will mean faster delivery world-wide, and online features are said to include a childproof account ID system, online tracking, multiple search options and secure order processing.\n Maxstone Media Group, a subsidiary of Metro, was scheduled to begin publishing a newly formatted magazine, AMAZING, in July. The magazine will be printed in seven languages, with distribution agreements said to be in place throughout Europe, as well as South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. North American distribution will be handled by Metro's sister company, Metro, Inc. Maxstone is looking to increase its output to three magazine titles per month by November 1998, with each of these planned publications to contain exclusive photos from Metro's extensive film and video libraries.\n Also, Metro, Inc. has entered into an agreement to purchase the assets of J.P. Manufacturing Co. of Lawrence, MA. J.P. Manufacturing operates under the trade name of Rachel's Pleasures, and is a leading manufacturer of adult novelty, leather, and nylon products.
