Metro Releases David Aaron Clark Anthologies

Metro, in conjunction with Video Team’s Ethnicity Films, has announced the release of two new anthologies from director David Aaron Clark.

The first, the two-disc Dreaming of Snow: the Best of David Aaron Clark’s Existential Azn-Girl Gonzo, compiles re-edited versions of his favorite gonzo scenes. It is available now.

“I relished the chance to go back and hone these scenes,” said Clark. “In some cases, I just sweetened the skin tones and tightened the cuts, while others I did major overhauls. This is surely the definitive, state-of-the-art Clark gonzo collection, for what that’s worth.”

Clark shot, edited and scored the music for all of his titles. He even went as far as doing all the box cover and inset artwork for both compilations. “I majored in Art in college,” said Clark, “and had a ball creating the artwork for these two releases.”

The seven-hour-plus Metro Interactive premium collection draws its material from Clark’s various gonzo lines during his ongoing tenure at Video Team. Included are moments from his Azn Super Idols series as well the Banana Cream Pie line. Also included are some of the best moments from Clark’s 2003 title K-Pop.

The compilation features performances by starlets like Sabrine Maui, Cris Taliana, Annie Cruz, and Kylie Rey demonstrating the sexiest way to make a banana split with chocolate syrup. Other Asian starlets served up include Kammy, Tami Lynn, Mila Yung, Veronica Lynn, Shailee and amateur gangbang girl, Heidi Ho.

“Ethnicity Films is the home of David’s most personal work, so it made sense to offer this career retrospective now,” said Metro’s Christian Mann. “The two sets combine for 14 hours, so there’s no shortage of material, especially with new versions and never-before-seen footage.

“David’s passion is Asian women, directed in a way that is unlike anything else in hardcore.”

Clark told AVN.com that he has a much more in-your-face gonzo style than when he first started in the late 90’s. “I was very influenced by the original Evil Angel lineup of directors,” said Clark, “and going back through it, I found that my earlier gonzo work had a more muscular and commercial feel to it.”

“It was a very long process to pick the scenes for this one,” he continued. “I made some scenes much shorter, and played a couple of them out longer. And even though it’s gonzo, there’s a definite through-line running through it all…forming one, long narrative.”

While Dreaming of Snow highlights Clark’s gonzo style, Metro’s second volume, Chasing Angels: the Best of David Aaron Clark’s Delirious Asian-Girl Erotica, features a representation of his surreal erotica.

Clark told AVN.com that he restructured and re-edited two discs worth of material into five separate narrative features starring a collection of Asian actresses. The collection opens with Asia Noir: Restless Dreams of Jade Spirits, which combines scenes and characters from Clarke’s Asia Noir series into one narrative. The two-hour-plus movie features Loni, Charmane Star, Lucy Lee, Kylie Rey, Jade-Blue Eclipse, Luci Thai and Lacey Tom as ghosts haunting series hero Mr. Marcus, now confined to a sanitarium.

Rounding out the first disc is an hour-long episode in Clark’s ongoing Asianatrix series, featuring Lucy Lee.

The second disc kicks off with Four Romantic Narratives, a quartet of stand-alone scenes including Cool White Light featuring Chai Sun and Mr. Marcus in what Clark calls his “single favorite scene ever.”

Closing out the collection is a 100-minute feature Sappho Flambierte, an Asian girl/girl title starring one of Clark’s signature actresses, Filipina Loni, who portrays a professional dominatrix.

Also included in the package are the original trailers for Asia Noir 1-3, photo galleries of all the girls, and liner notes on the inside cover – an essay entitled “Chasing Angels: Love and Theft in the Pornographic Oeuvre of David Aaron Clark,” by internet porn critic Skronker.

“I’m just happy to give people the chance to see this work in its best possible light,” said Clark. “If someone is ever going to like my work, it’s going to be with these two compilations.”

Dreaming of Snow and Chasing Angels represent a lot of care and effort in creating the perfect collector’s set for fans of DAC’s work,” said Mann. “The cover, designed by DAC and packaged in clear cases, is a two-sided sheet that shows through the inside so the customer can read the extensive liner notes written by [AVN Senior Editor] Jared Rutter.”

Dreaming of Snow is now available and Chasing Angels is slated to hit the street at the end of July.

Clark began directing adult in 1998 when he moved to Los Angeles, after a 10-year career in New York City highlighted by publishing four novels, producing two albums with his now-defunct band, FalseVirgins, and authoring a graphic novel series. He has directed features for companies ranging from Extreme Associates to Vivid Video.
