Mary Carey to Co-Host Comedy Show at the Improv

This Saturday at midnight, Mary Carey will appear at the Improv (8162 Melrose Ave.) to co-host the ongoing "Sex, Stand-Up and Rock 'n' Roll" show with rocker-turned- comedian Phil Varone.

"I used to play drums for Skid Row, so I went from being a rock star to being a comic," Varone told AVN.com. "The show concept is to combine all three elements: sex, comedy and rock. I have an acoustic musical act that opens the show, and then five or six comics – but in between the stand-up routines, we hand out gift bags full of porn, sex toys, clothing and other prizes. We give a raffle ticket to everyone who walks through the door. Mary will be giving out the prizes and doing some bits with me."

Varone met Mary Carey through a mutual friend who manages another comedian. "She's pretty animated and nuts," said Varone. "She seemed really excited to do it; the fans who come to this show are rock-and-rollers, so it's an energetic crowd."

Sponsors of "Sex Stand-Up and Rock 'n' Roll" include Hustler Video, Evil Angel, SexToy.com, Major League Porn Apparel and PhallixGlass.com. Varone hopes to take his idea on the road as a nationally-touring show later this year.

Carey, meanwhile, is gearing up to shoot a sex-comedy feature for K-Beech this weekend called Woman of the Year. Her first production through her own company Mary Carey Productions will be Mary Carey Rocks.
