Mary Carey Parts Ways with Legend

Mary Carey told AVN.com today that she has decided to formally part ways with Legend Video. The starlet and one-time California gubernatorial candidate had been under exclusive contract with the company for the past year.

Carey, who originally signed with Legend for one year, with an additional one-year option, told AVN.com that it was an amicable split.

“I love [Legend Video owners] Jack [Richman] and Bruce [Mendelson]…they’re great,” said Carey. “In the end, I think I just need to focus on Mary Carey the businesswoman, rather than Mary Carey the party girl.”

Mendelson agreed that the split was amicable. “We wanted to give her the option to promote herself more, and open her own company if she wants. It was really great working with her, and we had a great year,” he said.

Starting with Cash Markman’s Mary Carey on the Rise, Carey shot five titles for the company, one of which has yet to released. Her latest title for the company is Mary Carey On Fire.

“This is the best move for me right now,” Carey continued. “I need to take a break from things like feature dancing and start thinking about creating long term business ventures. I need to start being a good business person and making good business decisions.”

Carey entered the adult industry in 2002. Prior to her Legend deal, she was an exclusive contract performer and spokesperson for Kick Ass Pictures for over three years. “I’ve been in the industry for four years now and I’ve only done twelve boy/girl scenes,” continued Carey, “so I’m really not that exposed. I’m only twenty-six years old, so I figure the time to start smart business decisions is now.

“I still haven’t shot an anal scene yet…that’ll be a huge deal.”

In the meantime, Carey said that she won’t be working for other production companies. “I’ve been talking with my lawyer a lot, and we’re thinking about my next move. I’ll be holding off performing until the next good deal comes along…that could be a contract…or who knows, maybe I’ll start up my own production company.”
