Markman Signs Exclusive Deal With Legend

Cash Markman, AVN Hall of Fame writer and director, has returned to Legend Video where he will write and direct 12 features.

Under an exclusive contract he recently signed, Markman’s features will be issued on DVD and broadcast on Playboy TV, beginning with Mary Carey On the Rise, set for release March 16.

“I’ve known Cash for 20 years. I like his style. He makes fun, sexy features with lots of humor,” said Jack Richman, who along with partner Bruce Mendlesohn, owns Legend.

“We’re excited to be working with him,” he added.

With his new contract, Markman returns to Legend where he’s written more than 50 features since the 1980s.

“I first worked with Jack and Bruce at Legend years ago and they’re two of the greatest guys in the business and I’m happy be back working with them,” said Markman, who is known for his comedic features.

In his first release with Legend, Markman showcases Legend contract performer Carey who plays herself for laughs.

“I want people to get to know her in a way they didn’t know her before,” Markman said.

“She’s an intelligent woman who has a great sense of humor and who loves sex.”

Best known for her run for California governor in November 2003, Carey will also be featured in Markman’s second feature for the company, dubbed Mary Carey For Governor, to begin shooting in February.

“What I like about Mary is that she’s a really talented actress and she wants to act,” Markman said.

With a contract that calls for a feature once a month, Markman said he hopes to develop new stories and perhaps add a new chapter to some of his old ones.

“I’d love to do a sequel to Shagnet, and maybe a sequel to Sex Trek,” he said.

Having more than 700 credits in the adult industry, Markman said he is still excited by the prospects of working on new projects.

“I love writing features and I love directing especially if the talent loves to act,” he said.

“Jenna Haze, for instance, is a great actress and has a great talent to act and Mary (Carey) is the same way.”

A former television writer, Markman joined the industry in 1986, penning The Sheets of San Francisco, a take-off on the then popular TV crime drama “The Streets of San Francisco.”

He followed that up with more than 500 other writing credits before turning his attention to directing in 1996.

“I finally started directing because I knew I could make more money,” he said.

What followed were some industry “firsts” for a director. Markman became the first director to shoot sex live with multiple cameras on the Ecstasy Channel in 1998; was the first to shoot in high definition with Club Tropixxx and Hawaii Heat, in 2003; and was the first to shoot an adult film in 3-D when he shot The Naked Truth and Dark Dimensions in 2004.

He has received numerous AVN award nominations and was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame this year.
