Man Gets 2 Years in R. Kelly Sex Tape Plot

A 39-year-old man was sentenced to more than 2 years in prison for trying to extort $20,000 from the wife of New York Yankees outfielder Gary Sheffield over a sex tape depicting her and R&B singer R. Kelly, Chigago Sun-Times reported.

Derrick Mosley, a self-described community activist, denied he tried to extort DeLeon Richards, a gospel singer, and that he only tried to give her spiritual advice. But the judge sentenced him to 27 months in prison instead of the maximum 44-year sentence on Jan. 19.

Mosley met Richards and Sheffield’s agent, Rufus Williams in 2004, warning them that the tape could ruin Richard’s reputation if it got out and asked for $20,000 to destroy the tape.

In November, Mosley was convicted of extortion and wire fraud. He had been on probation for bank fraud at the time of the crime.
