Madness Pictures Signs David Aaron Clark to Direct

Madness Pictures has signed AVN Award-winning director and writer David Aaron Clark to its roster. Clark will direct and own his movies with Madness Pictures through his production company, Serious Mirror.

"I'm excited and pleased that a young, vital, truly up-and-coming company like Madness, headed by a director like Andre [Madness, owner of Madness Pictures], whose long resume proves he knows both what makes great porn and what makes quality film-making, wants me on their team," Clark said.

Not that Madness’ resume was the only thing that brought Clark to Madness Pictures. “I would have only done this with someone I totally trust. Andre is one of the few people in the industry I would absolutely trust enough to hand over my masters to him.”

Clark previously had been under contract with Video Team, where he specialized in Asian-themed porn, something he intends to continue with Madness.

“I’ve turned down offers to direct other stuff, but there’s now way I’m giving up on Asian porn now. I’ve earned it,” Clark said. “The field is getting a little crowded nowadays but four years ago I was knocking on doors trying to tell people there was a market for this but no one would listen.”

With over 30 titles to his credit as a director, Clark received AVN’s Best Screenplay award in 2002 for collaborating with Brad Armstrong on Euphoria, and the 2004 award for Best Ethnic-Themed Video – Asian for Asia Noir 2.

Clark is a six-year veteran of Adult video, and has also served in editorial positions at Screw and SF Spectator, as well as often writing for LFP.

"I've watched David's progress of work and have been impressed with his style," Madness said. "He recently contacted me to let me know he was ending a previous shooting contract, so we began to talk. I became interested in the idea of distributing David's work because of its originality.”

Clark said he sees Madness Pictures as a motivated company, looking to push its way to the forefront of Adult brand names and a refreshing relief from many of his prior experiences in (to use his word) "fuckworld."

His first title for Madness will be Diary of a Mad Porn Director, subtitled Saison D'Enfer, after the original title of one of 19th century French poet Arthur Rimbaud's work, which translates as "A Season in Hell." The feature follows several months of Clark's life when he lived in Canoga Park.

"Though I had the best roommate in the world, Brian Surewood, the San Fernando Valley is the ugliest and most culturally arid place I've ever lived," he said. "Distracting myself with a constant and challenging parade of fascinating and lovely Asian porn sirens was the questionable method for my half-hearted attempt to keep some semblance of sanity."
