Former high-fashion model and now adult film artist Desiree Brook is courting John Wayne Bobbitt - as in, taking him to court. Bobbitt has a court date Jan. 26 in the case, and Brook is rather anxious over the likelihood that her scuffle with the world's most infamous castration victim will turn into something of a media circus.
And she says it's Bobbitt's fault. Brook accuses Bobbitt of sending "all my adult videos" to her family - many of whom didn't even realize she had become an adult performer in the first place.
"Now I'm being slammed on the Internet," she tells Ross. "The problem is, when people found out that John was arrested they started checking up on who this person was that had him arrested. I'd like to be able to talk to someone who can give a more balanced idea of what's going on. To be honest, I've had over 49 different news stations call me in the last month."
She tells AVN's Gene Ross the incident leading to the court date Wednesday happened last November. "I basically walked out on him," she says. "While I was packing, he freaked out. He didn't want me to leave. I ended up getting some injuries from that and I had him arrested. I guess the judge in New York gave him ten times the maximum bail."
Bobbitt was given $50,000 bail in the case, apparently because he has faced several misdemeanor charges in the last five years, she says. Bobbitt, of course, first earned notoriety when his then-wife, Lorena, cut his penis off following what she called years of abuse.
Brook, though, says her involvement with Bobbitt is causing her a number of tangles. She tells Ross an assistant district attorney in Baltimore has contacted her about potentially testifying in a case involving Bobbitt there. She also says another state has a case pending involving Bobbitt and that she's wanted to testify there as well.
"The problem is," she tells Ross, "I have to been in New York on the 26th to testify on my charges. There's so many charges involved. All kinds of good stuff. One charge can get him up to four years in prison. All the other charges combined can get him another ten. The problem is, this has hit the front pages everywhere on the east coast, and I would have thought nothing of it, but John won't let it go away."
Brook also tells Ross she knows the woman who most recently brought Bobbitt back in the news - because she allegedly bit his genitalia during an argument about whether or not Bobbitt was cheating on her.
She also says Hustler publisher Larry Flynt. Screw publisher Al Goldstein, her former boss Dennis Hof, owner of the Moonlight Bunny Ranch (where she once hired Bobbitt), and others in both the adult and the mainstream press want to follow the story. She also says Lorena Bobbitt herself wanted to come to the Niagara Falls court dates, and that her attorney wanted to represent Brook as well - an idea Brook turned down, she tells Ross.
Brook says the entire surging hoopla is "insane". She says she had formerly hired John at the Moonlight Bunny Ranch brothel in Nevada. "(I) used to be John's boss," she tells Ross. "Then I was his manager. Now I'm doing porn again."
And she says, with some mainstream media reporting on her background from a "very large, prominent" San Diego family, "(t)hey're going to tear me apart, and I want to get some balance to this. Not just letting mainstream news cover the story. You know how their views are controversial, with the adult industry."
Brook says she all but backed into the adult entertainment industry by mistake. She tells Ross a professional football player with whom she was involved during her fashion modeling days videotaped her. "(S)omebody stole the tape at a party," she says. It ended up in the hands of a porn producer who "was going to put it out anyway," so she decided "I might as well make the best of it."
