You've heard of mate swapping, right? Here's a curious twist upon the concept: a married couple receiving hormone treatments ahead of a planned surgery, which will allow each spouse to change genders.
The surgery is scheduled for August, a doctor at St. George's Hospital southwest of Budapest, with the husband and wife now taking regular hormone treatments to change the balance of male and female hormones in their bodies, a Hungarian newspaper reported Jan. 23.
The Associated Press says medical preparation was suspended temporarily last September, while doctors argued over who would be on the surgical team. They have since resolved that dispute.
The woman is a 26-year-old identified only as Andrea. Her husband was not identified, the AP says.
