She mulls whether to surrender \nVANCOUVER - A Canadian newspaper report says fugitive porn star Marylin Star (Kathryn Gannon) is hiding here with her fiance and denies any wrongdoing in an insider trading scandal involving an investment banker and former lover.
The National Post says Star declined comment when it reached her Wednesday night at the home she shares with fiance Michael Gilles. But the paper says she told a friend Wednesday she is innocent and is mulling whether to surrender to authorities.
The National Post says the scandal exploded just at a point where Star "was trying to turn her life around" - abandoning an ambitious New Year's Eve gangbang stunt in favour of raising a family. "She is surrounded by friends, lawyers and she is making several decisions in the next couple of days about what to do and whether she decides to give up," said Marc Medoff, a longtime friend of Star's and head of the Adult Press Service, to the paper.
Star reportedly told Medoff that her former lover, investment banker James McDermott, was dragging her unfairly into the scandal, the paper says. Star "was essentially a lamb led to the slaughter," Medoff told the paper.
"She had no idea she had done anything wrong. Kathryn has a PhD in sex. But when it comes to finance she gets an F for flunking."
Star, though, has earned a reputation for being somewhere between headstrong and overly demanding in her adult film career. "She was a prima donna, arrogant and demanding, and the other girls in the industry didn't like working with her," says producer Chris Mann to the National Post.
But Medoff says Gillies asked her to change her life - and she agreed. "She was at a crossroads: Do a 2,000-man gang-bang, and become the most infamous woman in the history of this planet, or become a mother and raise a family? And that's what she chose. And, she walked away from [the event], which would have netted her millions."
