Online game site LoveChess.com, home of the erotic chess computer game for adults, launched their new affiliate program this week. To celebrate the kickoff, each LoveChess sale that is referred by Webmasters will earn a full 30 percent commission.
LoveChess was developed by Interstudio, a small design and software development studio in the Netherlands. The studio was founded in early 2003 by graphic designer Hans Veenstra and architect-turned-programming specialist Steven Manschot. Originally solely focused on the creation of multimedia edutainment programs for specific clients, Interstudio began to put its efforts into game technology and computer game development this year. The result was the development of their first commercial project, LoveChess.
"The idea of playing chess with animated pieces dates back to games Archon and BattleChess," Manschot explained. "With LoveChess, we turned this concept 180 degrees by letting the chess pieces make love instead of battling each other to the death. The Greek background was chosen partly because our interest in the ancient Greeks and Romans, but also because it offered a wealth of charismatic figures to choose from. We wanted LoveChess to have a novel and original look, so we put much of our effort into the design of the figures and scenery."
Being such a small company, the staffers have to be able to wear many different hats and learn quickly. During development, Veenstra made not only all the models and backgrounds from scratch, but also the Website, and developed the marketing plan. Manschot, meanwhile, handled the programming and animation. Eventually the game turned out to be exactly what they wanted, "a light-hearted, erotic chess game."
