Kulkis and Kick Ass in Op-Ed Piece

Kick Ass Pictures President Mark Kulkis was featured today in an article for the Los Angeles Daily Journal, the nation's largest legal daily newspaper, about the mainstreaming of adult entertainment.

Kulkis, a 1987 graduate at the University of Michigan who promoted 2003 Gubernatorial candidate and Adult starlet Marey Carey to mainstream visibility, was interviewed for the op-ed piece by Robert D. Richards and Clay Calvert, both attorneys and professors of communications and law.

The story fondly referred to Kulkis as a “media maestro,” and that his company is “taking the adult entertainment industry by storm.”

The article went on to discuss the mainstreaming of adult entertainment and Kulkis commented that “I used my public relations skills when I signed Mary Carey to an exclusive contract with my company and, in the process, had a girl there that would be good in front of cameras. The first big thing I did was run her for governer [of California]. Everyone touts that as one of the milestones of the mainstreaming of porn, at least in the last few years.”

Kulkis, a former managing editor at AVN, had plenty to say about the First Amendment and the influence of obscenity laws.

The piece concluded by saying that “when lunch with Kulkis ends, we get the distinct feeling that America will be hearing more from him in the not-so-distant future – even if those around Kulkis that day at the Chateau [Marmont] couldn’t recognize his face; that of a new generation of adult entertainment.
