Kimberly Kane Stretches Wings With Mishka, Vice Spreads

LOS ANGELES—Call her a quadruple-threat: Adult performer/director Kimberly Kane further proves her mettle as both a photographer and a scribe with new layouts in the Mishka clothing Spring '12 lookbook and the May issue of Vice magazine.

Co-shot by frequent adult industry lenswoman Rae Threat, who curated last spring's ALT to the ALT photography exhibit in Eagle Rock, CA, in which some of Kane's work was showcased, the Mishka lookbook features XXX stars Belladonna, Gracie Glam, Aiden Ashley and Charlotte Stokely modeling the skater-themed apparel in varying degrees of partial dress.

"Mishka is one of the biggest urban streetwear companies in the world," Kane told AVN. "They have three flagship stores, in New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo. It's great street cred. The kids are gonna think I'm pretty cool."

Threat, she explained, "had shot a lookbook for them before and they were really pleased with it, and she's a fan of my work, so we got together and shot the Mishka lookbook. I shot all mine in film—35 millimeter, black and white and Polaroids—and it was really great, we got a ton of awesome stuff."

Kane brought in friend and Junker Deisgns co-owner Giuliana Mayo to specially tailor the pieces worn (or not so much) by the models. "She basically made men's clothing look like female couture, which is something that no one's done with the Mishka lookbook yet—alter the clothes," Kane explained. "Usually the girls will just be posing in T-shirts; well we didn't want to do that, we wanted to fuck the clothes up and get dirty and cut things and get gritty.

"The theme of the lookbook is 'Girl Gang,' so we did mugshots," she continued. "My friend's mom worked at the Ventura County lock-up, and when a celebrity gets arrested in Malibu or something like that, they take them to Ventura. So when the Ventura lock-up went digital, she got the slate that you take photos with, so all the biggest celebrities for the last 20 years she's worked there have used this slate we used in the Mishka lookbook. So all the girls have mugshots, they look super tough, they look super gangy, but also super couture and sexy. It's cool."

Meanwhile, Kane also shot and wrote a feature for Vice magazine titled "Girls of Hollywood," which offers ultra-candid accounts of the paths to Lalaland for herself, Stokely, Andy San Dimas, Skin Diamond, fetish model Ulorin Vex and mainstream model Eva Card.

"It's not porn stories, it's stories of how the girls came to Hollywood," Kane related. "All the girls get really personal, and it's a very personal story of how each one came to Hollywood and how they made it, or came to be [doing] what they're doing now."
