Kansas Grand Jury to Probe Alleged Obscenity Violations

A grand jury has been empanelled to probe allegations by a religious group that certain businesses have violated obscenity laws.

The jury, selected by District Judge David Bruns, was brought together after the Topeka Evangelical Area Ministries submitted a petition seeking to investigate purported violations by local adult businesses, according to the Capitol Journal newspaper.

It was unclear which businesses the religious group was referring.

“The court anticipates that the district attorney will also be bringing several other alleged criminal violations before the grand jury, in addition to those set forth in the petition,” Bruns said.

The last time a Grand Jury was empanelled in the county was in 1994. That jury disbanded without issuing any indictments.
