CHATSWORTH, Calif.—Jules Jordan tasted gold once again in Las Vegas Saturday night, winning the top prizes in gonzo porn at the 33rd annual AVN Awards Show. (photo galleries)
His namesake studio Jules Jordan Video received awards for Best Gonzo (Eye Contact), Best T/A Movie (Bra Busters 6) and Best Anthology Movie (Oil Overload 12), while the seasoned shooter also took home the Best Director-Non Feature award for his sparkling showcase title, Jesse: Alpha Female.
The winner’s circle is far from foreign territory for Jordan, one of the most decorated directors of his generation with more than two dozen AVN statues in his trophy case. But that doesn’t make the new additions any less sweet, he told AVN.
“I don’t shoot anything just to say, ‘hey, I’m going to win awards for this,’” Jordan said. “I don’t change my routine. What I’m really glad about is I have a vision that seems to keep receiving accolades over the years.
“A lot of producers get stuck in a rut doing the same thing. So to make a memorable product over the past 15 years or so, it’s real cool to be able to do that.”
Jordan’s Eye Contact featured a stellar cast that included Aidra Fox, Jillian Janson, Gianna Nicole, Marley Brinx, Karissa Kane and Richelle Ryan. Jordan himself received a performing award for Best POV Sex Scene for his encounter with Janson and Fox.
“Gonzo is probably the most competitive genre just because a lot of things get lumped into the category. So to shoot something that stands out and that caught people’s attention is really cool. That particular movie had one of the best casts you could have for that genre.”
Jordan continued, “To me it’s something important in a gonzo movie to have the girl looking at the camera in a POV-type fashion. I still think it really connects the viewer to the action and that was the basis for that. Gonzo to me is all about bringing the viewer into the action and that’s one of the things that I think really does that.
“… There are very few people that can shoot a POV movie properly while holding the camera, giving the true perspective of what that is and I was glad that Aidra and Jillian got an award for that scene. They were great to work with and a perfect combination. It’s the first time I performed with them, so it’s cool to also win a performance award being that I’m most noted as a director.”
Speaking of which, Jordan left nothing to chance in shooting Jesse: Alpha Female, the first movie of her exclusive contract with the studio. Each of the scenes saw the superstar performer dressed in stylish fetish gear and brandishing various toys as she dominates her partners—Manuel Ferrara, Chad White, Samantha Saint and Jordan himself.
“Best Director-Non-Feature covers everything other than parodies and features. So that’s a wide open category and to have shot that one movie that stands out among all the competition is great,” Jordan said. “I took special care in shooting that movie. It was my first time shooting Jesse, so it was cool that it won that award.
“I also want to note that fewer and fewer directors out there actually hold a camera and/or do stills. So it’s great to be appreciated as a director that also does camerawork, cinematography and still photos.”
Jordan also produced the 2016 AVN Award-winning Bra Busters 6 and Oil Overload 12, both which were directed by long-time collaborator Chris Streams, an accomplished director himself.
“Chris Streams is always on the top of his game with what he does,” Jordan said. “We all take special care in selecting these movies. I think Samantha Saint is on the cover. Any movie we have with her gracing the cover always does really well.”
Meanwhile, Jordan applauded Greg Lansky, the chief creative officer of Strike 3 Holdings and director for Blacked/Tushy, which cleaned up Saturday at The Joint inside the Hard Rock with a whopping 16 awards—15 for Blacked and Tushy and one for Lansky as Director of the Year. Jordan is the exclusive DVD distributor for the high-end lines.
"This year was one of the best years for Jules Jordan Video as a distributor and a studio,” Jordan said. “We won five as a studio, including Best Director for myself, which i'm very happy about personally. And it was a historic night for Greg Lansky, who directs Blacked/Tushy, which we distribute.
“In all my years I've never witnessed an individual win as many awards. He is a true cinematographer, the likes of which this industry rarely sees. We were once again, as a whole, the winningest company of the show.”
