Joel Lawrence Looks to Strike Gold

Joel Lawrence, a 17-year veteran of the adult entertainment industry, has recently thrown his hat into the ring of performers-turned-agents (along with the likes of Tera Patrick, Seymore Butts, Lauren Phoenix and Britney Foster).

In March of 2005, Lawrence started Gold Star Modeling, culling from his personal experience as an adult actor, as well as an agent of dancers, in San Francisco.

Lawrence initially hit me with an analogy between his decision to go from talent to agent, (rather than producer) and the Gold Rush, so I knew I was in for a bit of a wild ride. “The ones who saw the most profit out of the Gold Rush weren’t the miners,” Lawrence explained, “they were the suppliers. I thought the best road for me was to become a supplier to the adult entertainment industry rather than a producer…because, bottom line, everybody will always need girls.”

Lawrence’s agency has 44 girls and eight guys, among them Jasmine Tame, Alicia Angel, Aurora Snow and Savannah James.

Lawrence hopes to be what he calls “a port in the storm” for his clients. “I’m trying to be a strong hand to guide them through this experience, and keep them away from things like vanity, ego and drugs.”

Lawrence also talked about helping his clients manage other aspects of their lives. “I’m here to make [my clients] money and extend their careers, and I can do that in several different ways,” Lawrence said. One way Lawrence pointed out is to incorporate his clients, as well as get them health insurance. “Joel has a lot of experience and he helps me out with all the extra stuff,” said Tame, a client of GoldStar Modeling since May.

Lawrence also looks to decrease his client’s expenses by initiating what he calls the “gold pass;” a system wherein his clients get discounts with local businesses on anything from hair styling and make-up to lawyers and accountants.

“It’s pretty evident that Joel cares about his girls,” said Snow, an industry veteran that has recently signed on with GoldStar Modeling. “He suggests and guides, he doesn’t push.”

Lawrence ends our conversation with another analogy, this time comparing the adult entertainment industry and Los Angeles to gambling and Vegas. “Gambling went through three stages,” Lawrence explained, “it went through the mob stage, the wild cat stage and then the corporate stage…and the adult industry is going through the same transformations.” Lawrence explained that, in his view, as something like adult entertainment or gambling grows more socially acceptable, it will slowly consolidate and get more organized. “Right now a lot of the agencies are in the wild cat stage, and I hope to put GoldStar up in the corporate stage…become a one-stop shop maybe. In the future, we’d like to provide companies with talent, locations, crew…everything.”

GoldStar Modeling is currently seeking female and male clients, as well as paying a finders fee of $500. They are available seven days a week.
