Joanna Angel to Speak at L.A. Alt-Film Fest

WESTWOOD, Calif. - AVN Award-winner Joanna Angel will join acclaimed documentarian Robert Greenwald (Outfoxed, Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers) as a speaker at the inaugural Alt-Film Fest at Borders Books Friday, Nov. 16.

Designed as a showcase for "a range of young filmmakers whose work challenges the established methods and content of contemporary cinema," the Fest includes budding auteurs James Spooner, Esther Bell, Matt Pizzolo and Curt Johnson.

"I'm flattered that I'm the only adult filmmaker on this panel," Joanna told AVN. "I remember when I was in high school, I used to go to Borders and steal comic books from there. It's really cool that ten years later, I'm speaking at a panel there."

The organizer of the event, Maddy Dawson, has brokered a deal with Angel to release a double feature disc with soft versions of the Burning Angel Entertainment horror spoofs in which she stars, Re-Penetrator and The XXXorcist, through his distribution company, UnitShifter Films.

"Hopefully, if all goes to plan," Joanna said, "it'll be in places like Hot Topic and Borders and places like that. So it'll be getting mainstream distribution. But he asked me to do [the Alt-Film Fest] long before we started talking about this distro thing."

Borders is located at 1360 Westwood Blvd., Westwood, CA 90024. The event kicks off at 7:30 p.m. For more information, go to www.altfilmfest.com.
