Jenna Jameson Book Deemed to Racy for Houston Libraries

Houston’s mayor decided earlier this month that Jenna Jameson’s autobiography was too steamy for patrons of the Houston Public Library and ordered the book removed from display.

Ironically, How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale, by Jenna Jameson with Neil Strauss, was rarely actually on display – a library spokesperson informed the Houston Chronicle that the twelve copies purchased by the HPL have been almost continuously checked out since the book came out in October.

However, the book was on a prominent shelf reserved for bestsellers long enough for a patron of one of Houston’s libraries to become offended enough by the book to complain to Council Woman Pam Horn about the book’s inclusion in a Houston library, prompting Horn in turn to complain to Mayor Bill White at a City Council Meeting on January 5.

Horn admitted to not having actually read the book, but told the Chronicle that, “It’s a fine line with a bestseller and what is considered pornography.”

The patron from whom the complaint originated was apparently offended by the photographs in the book, none of which contain full-frontal nudity. In fact, the most salacious photos in the book show nipples – and even those are only seen in a handful of the hundreds of photographs in the book which includes numerous pictures of the iconic adult performer as a child.

The mayor had the book moved to the closed stacks, where it is still available for checkout on request.
