MARINA DEL REY, Calif.—The official website for Cowboys & Engines, a short film to be produced by crossover star James Deen, is online. The future festival piece is an exciting steampunk western starring Jeff Cannata (The Totally Rad Show) and Walter Koenig (Star Trek, Babylon 5). Cowboys & Engines screenwriter Bryn Pryor will also direct.
The website, which includes cast bios, production designs, and inside information about the film, can be found here.
The film is being funded through KickStarter.com, a vehicle for emerging artists to finance projects from music to fashion to films. Visitors to KickStarter.com can see thousands of projects in various states of production and elect to donate money to support them to completion. The KickStarter website page can be accessed here.
"It's exciting to have James Deen producing our film," said Cowboys & Engines writer/director Bryn Pryor. "We've worked together before, and I know that his hands-on producing experience will help us get it done on time and on budget."
"I've wanted to see this movie from the moment I finished reading the script," Deen added. "We built this content-filled website to build interest in a fun, informative way. When you click your way through it, you'll want to see it too."
Cowboys & Engines is an ambitious steampunk adventure following Cade Ballard (Jeff Cannata), the war-weary former ambassador from the nation of Texas, as he meets Guinivere Wheeler (Libby Letlow), a woman who proves to be as dangerous as she is charming. When they encounter Professor Nicholas Timéon (Walter Koenig) and learn that his temporal engine, a machine with incredible destructive power, has been stolen by would-be conqueror Dr. Clay, Cade and Guinivere set off to save San Francisco from total destruction.
The creative team behind Cowboys & Engines says the production is "an attempt to create something truly amazing; a dynamic, entertaining work of art for its own sake. A film that demonstrates without compromise that the people making it, irrespective of their professional backgrounds, are artists capable of working far beyond the narrow constraints of public expectation."
Contributors to Cowboys & Engines through KickStarter.com can receive prizes depending on the size of their contribution, including a comic book one-sheet, original props and wardrobe, the opportunity to be an extra in the film, premiere passes, and joining James Deen in a producer credit.
Along with producing Cowboys & Engines, James Deen will be appearing on the big screen soon with Lindsay Lohan in The Canyons. The feature film was written by Bret Easton Ellis and directed by Paul Schrader. To view a teaser of The Canyons, click here.
Despite his mainstream success, Deen maintains his loyalty to the adult industry, which he calls "a dream job."
