LOS ANGELES—Award-winning director Jack The Zipper's first foray into all-girl action, XERO—a 2011 AVN Best All-Girl Release award nominee—scored yet another, even greater honor by having been voted Best AltPorn Feature by altporn.net, the leading internet destination for all things alt.porn.
"I'm glad they appreciated XERO for what it is, which is absolutely a departure movie," Zipper said after being notified of the judges' decision. "The nominations and the awards are greatly appreciated, and I think AltPorn.net is a really nice-looking site. And I also want to congratulate Joanna [Angel] if she won anything. I think she must have, she was nominated for a million."
Indeed, Angel and her company Burning Angel won in two categories: Best AltPorn Solo Girl Membership Site, and her movie POV Punx 4 won for Best Gonzo AltPorn Video.
"I guess Joanna and Zipper are the last men standing in alt," Zipper lamented.
In making XERO, Zipper teamed with German art band Rockford Kabine, which furnished the soundtrack for the feature, a disk of which is included with the DVD release. The movie stars Jade Starr, Jayme Langford, Franziska Facella, Zoe Minx and Devi Lynne in what has been described as "a masterful stylistic tribute to freaky Japanese grindhouse flicks crashing into cutting edge, ultra- graphic girl/girl sex, redefining one of the most popular genres in adult in the process."
"When Rockford Kabine first approached me to do a project together, we all quickly realized a shared passion for movies like Sasori Scorpion, Zero Woman and Lone Wolf at the River Styx—all the stuff that came out of the Japanese exploitation scene in the 1970s. That was the inspiration," Zipper told AVN. "I was already imagining a new kind of girl-on-girl movie, so I invited the best female performers I knew to sign up. While we were out shooting scenes, Rockford went into their studio in Germany for three months of very intense sessions and recorded over 50 unbelievable tracks, which became the soundtrack and heart of the film."
JackTheZipper's next release, Cannibal Queen, is also an all-girl feature, shot on location last year in the South Pacific, and is scheduled for a September release by Pulse Distribution.
But Zipper says he's not wedded to the alt.porn genre, and would love to take a shot at directing "straight-up Evil Angel style gonzo" for anyone who'll hire him to do it. He can be contacted with any bonafide offers here.
