LOS ANGELES—Performer, director, producer, distributor, company owner—is there anything Jules Jordan doesn't do at an award-winning level? Judging by the various trophies he earned at the 2013 AVN Awards, Jordan continues to build on his résumé.
At the 30th annual AVN Awards Jules Jordan Video took home 14 trophies—eight for Jordan’s own scenes, releases and series; and four for movies distributed under his banner.
The wins for Jordan personally and for his company were gratifying for arguably the industry's best sex director. Of particular note was his win for Best Star Showcase, which was the first time the award has been presented.
A star showcase is defined by AVN as "a movie centered around one female performer by both incorporating her name into its title and featuring her in all of its sex scenes." Asa Akira to the Limit took home the prize, and in it Akira essays a cornucopia of award-winning sexual activity including group sex, anal sex, double-penetration, POV and A2M, along with sundry boy/girl and oral sex.
"I'm always happy to win awards, but I think the diversity of what we wound up winning this year was special," Jordan said. "I think we produced many deserving movies last year and it's nice when you put so much into putting out a great product for the fans that it's recognized by an organization like AVN."
Among Jordan's key wins in the release and series categories were Best All-Sex Release (Oil Overload 7), Best Anal Release (Anal Boot Camp), Best Interracial Release (Mandingo Massacre 2), Best Interracial Series (Mandingo Massacre), Best New Series (Ultimate Fuck Toy), and Best Star Showcase (Asa Akira to the Limit).
Jordan's scene awards came from three different movies—all of which won two awards each. Best Anal Sex Scene went to Brooklyn Lee and Manuel Ferrara in Oil Overload 7, Best Boy/Girl Sex Scene was awarded to Alexis Ford and Nacho Vidal in Alexis Ford Darkside, and Jordan as a performer snagged an award for the scene he did with Asa Akira in Asa Akira to the Limit.
"Yes, you could say that Oil Overload 7, directed by Chris Streams, along with Alexis Ford Darkside, Asa Akira to the Limit, and the Mandingo Massacre series were the big ones for us this year," Jordan said. "I'm proud of all those and I really can't forget the Best New Series win for Ultimate Fuck Toy. We've had three great girls [Amia Miley, Abella Anderson and Riley Reid] carry the series and it's been fun to shoot."
Personally though, it's perhaps the award he won for Best Director—Non-Feature for Alexis Ford Darkside that Jordan is particularly proud of.
"I really wish I was able to attend the AVN Awards, not only because I won Best Boy/Girl Sex Scene, but to celebrate Jules' win for directing my Darkside," Ford, who was back in New York recovering from complications of a recent surgery, told AVN. "The Darkside movies are very special to him, and it was really an honor to be chosen to do this project. I pushed myself not only because I wanted this movie to have my best scenes and things I've never done on camera before, but also to please Jules and reward him for having the confidence in me to do this."
The other awards that Jules Jordan Video took home were the following categories: Best Amateur Release (Dare Dorm 9, RK Netmedia/Jules Jordan), Best Amateur Series (College Rules, Morally Corrupt/Jules Jordan), Best Big Bust Series (Boobaholics Anonymous, Mike John/Jules Jordan) and Best POV Release (Eye Fucked Them All, Erik Everhard/Jules Jordan).
