Adult entertainment means big money. How much money? According to a Free Speech Coalition announcement made on April 13, adult video sales and rentals hit a record high of $5.175 billion. Internet and mail orders accounted for $1.075 billion of the total revenue. When magazines, clubs, and novelties are added to video sales and rentals, the industry's overall sales exceed $10 billion.
"Our financial results prove that the adult entertainment industry is a major economic force in California and throughout the United States," said industry lobbyist Kat Sunlove. "We employ thousands of people and contribute significantly to the country's tax base."
