Industry Pitches in to Help Native Americans

Last night a party sponsored by Mofowear, Jill Kelly Productions and Las Vegas Novelties culminated a month-long holiday toy drive spearheaded by director Skye Blue and Brian Upgraft of TheHardcoreSource.com.

The majority of toys, clothes, blankets and other items donated will go to a dual reservation in Wyoming shared by the Eastern Shoshone and North Arapahoe tribes. “I usually try to give the most to the places with low-income and high unemployment rates – the places that need the most. Upgraft told AVN.com. “I’ve been doing this for the last eleven years and going to this same reservation for the last seven - they’re really nice people.”

Other tribes will benefit from what has been donated as well.

"Most Americans are under the impression that the government pays Native Americans to be on these reservations, but that is very untrue,” Blue said. “A lot of reservations have a 75-80 percent unemployment rate, and around the holidays it's difficult on the families because they have to decide whether to buy toys for their children or firewood and coal for heat.”

Blue learned about Upgraft’s efforts with Native Americans this year and agreed to help raise awareness about their needs.

Among the industry notables that gathered at the Barfly for the party were Mofo Girls Vandalia and Reina Leone, as well as Mofo and his wife, JKP Girls Haven and Cindy Crawford, as well as JKP publicist Scott Hoover, LVNI’s publicist Seth, and Tod Hunter, Nick Manning, Ed Powers, and a number of starlets.

“The industry has been really helpful. We didn’t gets as many toys as we had hoped for, but this was the first year and hopefully next year we’ll be able to get the industry more involved next year,” Upgraft told AVN.com

Each of the companies that sponsored the party donated cash and or services to help the toy drive come together.

Everything that was been gathered will now be placed in a U-haul and taken to Wyoming. In previous years, U-haul donated their vehicle’s use, but this year they changed their policy. Fortunately, Wicked Pictures stepped up and picked up the tab.
