Illinois Judge Strikes Down Ban On Explicit Video Games

An Illinois federal judge on Friday struck down a new state law that would have prohibited selling or renting violent and sexually explicit video games to anyone younger than 18, according to a published report.

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, who proposed the Safe Games Illinois Act a year ago, quickly pledged to appeal the U.S. District Court ruling.

“This battle is not over,” he said in a press release.

The Video Software Dealers Association, the Entertainment Software Association and the Illinois Retail Merchants Association filed the lawsuit.

The three organizations said the law is vague and “significantly infringes upon constitutionally protested rights of free expression."
