An "indecent proposal" on German television? Nein. A plan to air a live daytime talk show including a German man offering a night of sex with his wife has been shelved.
The proposal would have involved the man offering a night with his wife for a million marks - $500,000, Reuters says - but a storm of protest has it on hold, the wire service says.
The talk show, Baerbel, airs on television station RTL. The station says it's putting the installment on hold following complaints that children might see the show and warnings that the station could face legal trouble for being an accessory to prostitution, Reuters says.
The tabloid newspaper Bild put the story on page one, quoting the unemployed husband - named only Ranier W. - as saying the idea was to help himself and his wife, Carmen, get out of financial trouble. The idea was inspired by Indecent Proposal, the 1993 film featuring Demi Moore and Robert Redford.
