Last month’s release of Island Fever 3 places Digital Playground’s Joone in the annals of history, according to the October 11 issue of the Weekly Variety, which has named Joone the first Adult director to release a movie in High Definition (HD) DVD.
HD technology has already engendered many changes in mainstream productions, requiring different lighting and different use of makeup to cover the magnified blemishes on the human body that HD captures. Yet the mainstream world has paid little attention to how HD will change things for the Adult industry.
"I had to tell the girls, 'Make sure you get a lot of sleep the night before -- I don't want to see bags under your eyes!'” Joone told the Weekly Variety, explaining the difficulty that HD cameras’ sharper, magnified images present for Adult productions, where close-ups of the performers naked bodies are required and blemishes on any part of their bodies is considered undesirable.
Joone notes that HD shoots last longer, cost more in post-production and require skilled makeup artists, who must be on hand for the frequent applications that perspiring adult performers require.
