Last month AVN Hall of Famer Ginger Lynn launched Gingerbred Productions with a Web-based contest to find America's next porn star. With virtually no advertising, the site gathered one hundred contestants in a month to compete in a two-round contest to win a spot in a big-budget feature to be produced by Gingerbred Productions.
"Actually, we're going to create the next porn star, not find one. People are coming in and entering the contest. We're choosing the people with best attitudes and every type of look size shape color age - we've got a little bit of everybody. And when you get here, we'll teach you how to be a porn star," Lynn explained to AVN.com. "Not just how to look, but the proper attitude. One of the things I'm hoping to bring back to the adult industry is enthusiasm as well as passion. It seems that so many films today are formula. People will do two or three movies a day and just leave. I'm going to teach you how we used to do it - we're you have fun."
People are invited to enter the contest by submitting a photo at Gingerpicks.com. Users of the site will vote for their favorite contestant, which will be a consideration for declaring winners of the first round. Other considerations depend on what you've written in the submission process.
When aspiring porn stars submit their photos, they have the opportunity to suggest their sexual fantasy as a scene. If it's doable on the location Gingerbred Productions selects, then they will be able to live their fantasy out on camera. If not, then they will be asked to draw a pre-scripted scene from a fishbowl.
"I read what you write. If you're a guy who says 'I want everybody to suck my cock' - yeah, so does every other guy out there. That's not passionate, you just want a blowjob. I'm looking for the girl or the guy who has something special. I see it in your face, in your photos, and what you write, what you want to do," said Lynn.
The top contestants, based on the voting by the public as well as opinion of the Gingerbred Productions staff, will move on to the second round, where they will be invited to participate in an amatur porn - with Ginger Lynn as the director
First round winners will be asked to participate in solo and couples scenes. Couples are paired up based on similarities in their sexuality. They are given one hour to perform their scene. They start off with one camera and if things go well, two more cameras are added to the production crew. If things don't go well, then Ginger Lynn herself intervenes.
"I will not only be producing and directing, but sometimes the coach will end up going in as well," said Lynn.
One game that participants in the second round will participate in is called "Blow Me". Six blindfolded men line up and have six different women spend three minutes on each one of them demonstrating their oral skills. After each session, the men are asked to judge to the performance of each woman. "It's kinda like musical chairs - but with blowjobs," suggested Lynn.
The scenes will be released as Ginger Picks, which is believed to be the first amature porn series developed by a woman.
Out of the first twelve scenes shot, three-minute clips from each scene will be posted on the Website. One or two clips a week will be posted. Users of the website will be invited to vote for their favorite scene. The most popular performers will be cast in one of six big budget features written by AVN Award nominee Beth Ann Rafael, and shot by an Emmy Award winning cameraman.
"If you trip my trigger baby, you're going to be my little protégé," quipped Lynn.
The first twenty-one winners that will shoot scenes for and perhaps even with Ginger Lynn are identified by their users names from gingerpicks.com in the following list: Karina, Michael One, Chuck 1272, Charlene, Stony, Mark, Melissa One, Jade, Chavez 8 inch, Big Ten Inch, Vanessa, Sara, Jose, Allan, Stephanie, Tammy, Bobbi, Guadulupe, Gretchen, Naughty Lea, Gretchen's Husband, and Bad Kitty 76.
Participants will be required to test negative not only for HIV, but for syphilis, hepatitis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia as well. Lynn is also adament that Gingerbred Productions will be a drug and disease free production company. "If you need a drink or a drug to do a scene, you shouldn't be in porn," she said.
The first round winners will begin shooting their scenes on April 2 and 3. Lynn hasn't sought a distribution deal yet, but is waiting to have the first tape finished before finalizing that sort of arrangement. She expects the first volume of Ginger Picks will be in stores in approximately three months.
