Hustler Hollywood Opening Met with Controversy

The recent opening of a Hustler Hollywood store has been met with some controversy. Despite the fact that Hustler magazine founder and publisher, Larry Flynt and the adult retail store went through all the right zoning channels and gained city approval, area residents are still trying to shut the store down because it is located in an area that they say is not zoned for adult businesses.

But, as King 5 News reported, “the city says the store passed inspection because less than half of its shelf space is occupied with sexually oriented material.”

"Therefore in the eyes of our zoning code, the use is considered a retail use, not an adult use,” Peter Katich, Land Use Administrator, told the local news station.

The report went on to say that City Council members were sympathetic to the residents’ complaints and promised to look into the matter, but admitted that legally, they might be unable to do anything.
