LOS ANGELES—The Huffington Post has posted an article about the patdown by the TSA of Jonah Falcon at the San Francisco International Airport, because, said Falcon, his huge dick, which measures 9 inches flaccid and 13 and a half erect, set off some sort of alarms—not literally, of course, but in the eye of the beholder. HuffPo hit up Falcon, who provided some humorous details, but in the middle of the article there comes this interesting nugget:
"The Guinness Book of World Records does not record such feats, but Falcon did show his standout feature to Huffington Post executive editor Buck Wolf," the article states.
That's alll they say regarding Wolf's inspection of Falcon's penis, but coming in a sentence that mentions Guinness, are we to assume that the scrutiny was done in a journalistic vein? Did the HuffPo need to do its duty and make sure Falcon was not lying?
To be clear, AVN writers see penises and other genitalia regularly in the course of our jobs, but we also hold ourselves to ... that's right, professional standards of behavior no matter whom we are interacting with. Not only that, but we also are hyper-sensitive to issues related to sexual harassment precisely because of the industry we cover.
So it sounded very strange to read that a HuffPo editor—no, the executive editor—thought he needed to inspect the package, when nothing of the sort was required of him in order for that story to have been written. As far as confirmation that Falcon is who and what he says he is, HBO already took care of that in the 1999 documentary referenced in the story. Or did they think it might have shrunk or grown in the intervening years and felt it was their editorial duty to see?
Whatever it was, it feels more than a little inappropriate. Sure, if Wolf wants to see Falcon's dick, who cares? Stare away! And obviously Falcon didn't mind or he would never have unzipped. But that's not the point. The point is that the Huffington Post apparently thinks having its executive editor check out the dick is journalism, when it is more along the lines of voyeurism. Mistaking the two is creeeeeepy.
Look, we love voyeurism at AVN, and we have no problem with men looking at other men's penises. Some of us even encourage it! It makes the world, and our industry, go 'round. But we never mistake it for anything other than what it is.
One also wonders if they would be so quick to inspect a woman's breasts or vagina.
