Howard Stern Adds 9 Markets

At a press conference this morning, radio megastar Howard Stern declared that he will not leave over-the-air radio for satellite and that his show has been picked up in nine more markets.

Stern confirmed he will be returning to five markets: Pittsburgh, San Diego, West Palm Beach, Fla., Orlando, Fla., and Rochester, N.Y., after having been pulled off stations owned by Clear Channel Communications due to pressure for broadcasts termed by some as indecent. He also said his show will air in Houston, Austin, Texas, Tampa, Fla., and Fresno, Calif., bringing the number of stations that broadcast his morning show to 45.

Stern said he would honor the 18 months remaining in his contract with Infinity Broadcasting – the Viacom Inc. division that syndicates his show, despite increased indecency fines by the FCC – and went on to praise them for backing him during this recent post-Janet Jackson “boobgate” crackdown on indecency.
