LOS ANGELES - The New Beverly Cinema celebrates its 30th anniversary tonight with a screening of vintage 1970s and early '80s XXX footage. Special guests Herschel Savage and Cara Lott will appear in person for the special midnight show.
"Cara is is one of the scenes we're showing and Herschel is in three of them," organizer Brian Quinn told AVN. "We're also showing scenes with Marilyn Chambers, John Holmes, Serena, Harry Reems, Colleen Brennan, Jessie St. James, Angel, Rhonda Jo Petty, R. Bolla, Karen Summer, Lynx Canon and Cody Nicole."
Found in a storage area above the New Beverly's projection booth during a recent renovation, the rare 35mm hardcore reels date back to the theater's previous incarnation as a porn theater.
"We found a bunch of incomplete prints from classic porn features including Insatiable, along with trailers and shorts," Quinn said. "Our projectionist edited it all together into a two-and-a-half hour program, ending with the last five minutes of The Lollipop Girls as a tribute to [the late New Beverly owner] Sherman Torgan, who appears in the footage."
Quinn previously screened The Opening of Misty Beethoven as a special midnight show at the New Beverly and hopes to launch a monthly XXX series at the theater.
