Hearing on Massachusetts Adult Store Plan Postponed

The city’s Planning Board last week postponed a public hearing on a proposal to build a 10,000-square-foot adult store here.

On Thursday, the board voted to postpone the hearing on the proposal by Capital Video Inc. until Dec. 14 in order for the full panel to participate, The Republican reported. The board’s David Wilensky, Frances C. Volkmann and Keith Wilson were out of town that day and a fourth member, Jennifer Dieringer, recused herself because she lives near the proposed store site.

Capital Video has been seeking to build what it calls the largest adult store in the country at 135 King St. and had been planning to officially propose its plan to the board even as City Council members and some residents have already voiced their opposition to the plan.

Council members are scheduled to approve amendments to the zoning law which would block Capital Video’s proposed store from the location.

Earlier this month, the city Planning Department said the plan would be moot if the amendments are approved by the council.

But Michael Pill, a lawyer who represents the company, said that the hearing must still be held even if the zoning amendments are approved.
