HUMP! Film Festival Hits Long Beach For One Night, April 12

LOS ANGELES—HUMP!, the unorthodox film festival run by shit-stirrer Dan Savage that normally does its thing up north in the rainy environs of Seattle and Portland, is coming to Southern California next month for three screenings on April 12 at the Art Theatre.

Or as the Long Beach Post put it, "Forget the silicone, the clear high-heels, the skinny, the gonzo-style-let’s-just-go-straight-to-screwing. HUMP! is about celebrating the odd, the common, and even the downright beautiful aspect of watching strangers have sex on screen.

"With titles such D&D Orgy and Pie Sluts," it adds, "along with descriptions such as 'A man, a plan, a butt plug' or 'E.T. has returned and E.T. is more than his "best friend"—wink!' HUMP! is sure to bring out the strangest of sensations in all its viewers."

As we reported last month, HUMP! has been on the road in a cross-country jaunt with stops not just here, but also in Madison, Wisconsin and New York. It's a nutty schedule, but at least people outside the festival's normal sphere of influence will be able to experience the communal strangeness that is HUMP!, which calls its films "funny, thought-provoking, sad, artistic, outrageous, and almost overwhelmingly sexy—because they're real. And they're real because they were created and performed by sex-positive people, just like YOU."

How can you not show up to HUMP! in Long Beach to experience an hour and a half schedule of short films on a variety of sex-soaked subjects. Showings will be at 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., April 12, at the Art Theatre, 2025 E. 4th St, Long Beach, CA 90814. Tix are $20 and available here.

Next stop on the HUMP! tour after Long Beach is Dallas, Texas, April 19, followed by New York for a three-night run, April 25-17. The tour winds up back north, in Portland for three nights, May 15-17, before closing out in Bend, Oregon on June 5.
