HOLMES BOOK GETS TABLOID HYPE

Laurie Holmes \nLOS ANGELES - Laurie Holmes is working on a book about her late husband, porn legend John Holmes, and the project has received some tabloid hype - the National Enquirer has published a piece in the current issue which includes suggestions that John Holmes had affairs with both film musical star and one-time Frank Sinatra paramoure Juliet Prowse - and with Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner.

The latter suggestion has received a denial from an unnamed Hefner spokesman. The Enquirer says Holmes and Hefner - who once admitted to having experimented with a homosexual liaison or two - trysted at a time when Holmes was down on his luck. But the Hefner spokesman tells the tabloid Hefner and Holmes never met, though they spoke once before Holmes's death from AIDS.

Holmes would only say she expects the book to be "dynamite" when she spoke to AVN's Gene Ross. "And that's my comment. Hollywood, watch out." She didn't say when she expected the book to be published.

The Enquirer quotes Hefner through a publicist as saying John Holmes told him "he needed money and wanted to sell a ring he felt was worth quite a bit of money. I told him I wasn't interested."

Laurie Holmes tells the Enquirer, though, that her husband never told her exactly what kind of sex he had had with Hefner, only that they did have sex during the 1970s.

The tabloid also says Holmes and Juliet Prowse were supposedly trysting when her then-husband came home without warning, followed by gunfire as he was dressing. The tabloid says Holmes suffered a leg wound but managed to drive to a hospital before passing out on his steering wheel horn.

The Enquirer says Prowse's husband later denied the incident, but the South African-born dancing star and her husband divorced soon afterward.
